This report describes the process of development of a longitudinal injury prevention curriculum in one medical school. The curriculum committee felt that adding the material in a longitudinal fashion would better correlate the material to the rest of the curriculum as well as provide efficiency in the already crowded undergraduate programme of study.

CONCLUSION: The prevalence of required instruction in musculoskeletal medicine is greater compared with the prevalence reported in previous studies. Musculoskeletal medicine appears to have attained a more prominent place in the curriculum at most schools.

During 2005-2009, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention funded five colorectal cancer (CRC) screening demonstration projects around the United States; only one was based in an academic medical center (AMC) rather than a health department. The Suffolk County Preventive Endoscopy Project (Project SCOPE) was a collaborative effort between Stony Brook University Medical Center (SBUMC) and the Suffolk County Department of Health Services. Project SCOPE’s objective was to increase CRC screening among Suffolk County residents at least 50 years old who had inadequate or no insurance coverage for CRC screening

The Association of American Medical Colleges, or AAMC, is urging U.S. teaching hospitals to establish policies to manage financial relationships between physicians and industry to avoid any potential influence on patient care. The organization also says specialty societies and professional medical associations have a responsibility to be free of conflicts of interest because of their role in providing CME and developing clinical practice guidelines
