Introductions: Hello My Name Is...

Postby danchan on Sun Sep 28, 2008 4:32 pm

Dan Chan! (Yes the name does rhyme) Hello everyone, I just wanted to introduce myself, currently a MS-2 at Mayo Medical School in Rochester, MN and part of The MD Connector Team. I look forward to meeting all of you and if you have any questions feel free to contact me or any one of the MD Connector team members!

What? You want more?
Okay fine, Here's some fun filled trivia that you can follow along with or be creative and come up with your own categories:

Undergraduate: Brigham Young University
Major: Electrical Engineering
Why I want to be a doctor: To help people... and to innovate and revolutionize the healthcare practice and system.
Favorite color: Green
What I do to relax: Cook for my family of 4 and friends. If you're in town I'll cook for you.
If I was an animal what would I be? Some sort of microbe constantly evolving with the genetic tides of change
Paper or plastic? Paper, I like how they fold up so you can stack them side by side rather than stuffing weird plastic bags into other plastic bags
Pathology that I most want to see in vivo: Fetus in fetu
How I'd like to die: On a one-way trip out of our galaxy

Preposterous questions? Think again. You'd be surprised what interview questions may come your way. Go ahead, introduce yourself, or if you're still inquisitive, ask away.

Welcome! I'm actually headed out to the UK mid November -- we've been trying to contact NHS London for some facility tours and interviews and to learn a little bit about the health system there in a comparative study that we've been doing (so far with American and Chinese health care systems). Maybe you can suggest any UK contacts there?

Welcome MudPhuD! In respect to your pathology wish list, it reminds me of a funny anecdote regarding physical examine rounds. As part of our second year advanced doctoring curriculum we get to examine and learn from inpatients. Well just near the end of our cardio block our preceptor took us to see this patient and had us examine his heart. Well the three of us in our team looked and listened in all the normal places (A - right upper sternal margin, P - left upper sternal margin, T left lower sternal margin, M - left lower mid clavicular line) and each of us came up with quick conclusions to something abnormal. Was it a rub? Was it a murmur? I swear that opening click sometimes can be hard to hear! As we mulled over our findings the preceptor pulled up his imaging in his electronic records and sure enough situs inversis! Needless to say we went back to flip our listening over the right chest and his symptoms magically resolved
