Conference information: On April 26-28, 2009 Mayo Clinic Health Policy Center will host an education symposium that will build upon previous symposia hosted by the Mayo Clinic Health Policy Center to address U.S. health care reform. The symposium will focus on ways the nation must transform medical, allied health, nursing and engineering education; licensure; accreditation and reimbursement in order to create a new health care work force oriented around teamwork. This work force, trained in a team approach to medicine, will deliver high-value, coordinated care in new ways to support the needs of patients with complex medical conditions. Approximately 250 participants representing medical educators in all fields, licensing and accreditation bodies, provider organizations, policy experts and other key sectors will gather to identify priorities for furthering medical education changes to support broader health care system reform. Mayo Clinic Health Policy participants can be found here.

Participation: Participants must be students in U.S. and Canadian accredited schools.  Eligibility is limited to pre-medical, medical, nursing, and allied health students (e.g. occupational therapy, health care administration, physical therapy, physician assistants, etc).

Instructions: Please write an essay addressing the following question.  Your essay may not exceed 2,500 words, excluding figures and tables.  You may use the background information provided as a reference.
